How it works

Choose the section, the dimension — diameter for round, side for square, across-flats for hexagonal — the length, the quantity and the grade. The tool returns weight per metre and total weight.

Density is read from our grade reference set, the same one that feeds the grade pages and the tube calculator. No two neighbouring grades share a density: a 304L is 7.90 and a 316L 7.98, and that 0.6% difference is exactly what makes two tools diverge when they do not share a source.

Which dimension do I enter for hexagonal bar?
The across-flats dimension, that is the distance between two opposite faces — it is the standard designating dimension. Across-corners is derived from it and is not entered.
Does the result apply to hollow bar?
No, this tool handles solid sections. For tube, use the tube weight calculator, which takes an outside diameter and a wall thickness.
Why does the grade change the weight?
Because density varies from grade to grade — from 4.51 for titanium grade 2 to 8.95 for 70/30 copper-nickel. On an order priced by weight, the choice of grade changes the invoice as much as the dimension does.
